Longdown and Holcombe Burnell is home to a variety of active groups and regular activities. Whether you’re looking for exercise, social interaction, learning a new skill, or pursuing a hobby, there’s something for everyone in our village.
All Welcome
Most groups welcome newcomers regardless of experience level. Don’t be shy about trying something new – you’ll find friendly faces ready to help you get started.
Regular Activities
Badminton
Regular sessions in the village hall. Suitable for all abilities from beginners to experienced players. Equipment available. Contact the Village Hall for session times.
Bell Ringing
Learn the ancient art of change ringing at St John the Baptist Church. No experience necessary – full training provided. A welcoming team of ringers of all ages.
Dancing
Argentine Tango – Passionate partner dancing
Ballroom & Latin – Classic dance styles
Devon Velvet – Traditional social dancing
Dog Training
Expert canine training with Tricia Wills and the Exeter & County Canine Society. Help your four-legged friend become a well-mannered village resident!
Exercise Classes
Regular fitness sessions in the village hall. Get fit, stay healthy, and meet your neighbours. Contact the Village Hall for current class schedule.
Gardening Clubs
Alpine Garden Society – For lovers of alpine and rock garden plants
Hardy Plant Society – Sharing knowledge of hardy perennial plants
Sewing Club
Bring your projects, share techniques, and enjoy the company of fellow crafters. All levels of sewing experience welcome.
Sports & Social Club
Skittles, social events, and community gatherings. The heart of village social life. All ages welcome.

Church Activities
St John the Baptist Church offers regular services and special events throughout the year:
- Sunday Services: Weekly worship and fellowship
- Special Services: Harvest, Christmas, Easter celebrations
- Church Fete: Annual community event
- Fundraising Events: Supporting church maintenance and community projects
Using the Village Hall
Many of these activities take place in our modernised village hall, which is also available for private hire:
- Main Hall: Suitable for parties, receptions, classes, and large gatherings
- Meeting Room: Perfect for smaller groups and committee meetings
- Skittle Alley: Available for matches, practice, and social games
- Stage: For performances and presentations
- Kitchen Facilities: Fully equipped for catering
- AV Equipment: Sound system and projection available
